
The so called popculture – basically the culture which developed to pop music – shows up with several differences to earlier tendencies like mass culture and popular culture. Now pop culture is outpaced by its own features. What is going to be at its place?
Diedrich Diederichsen is reseacher of cultural affairs, journalist and one of the most important pop theorists. After he had graduated in literary studies, history of art and linguistics Diederichsen worked as editor at the music magazine Sounds (1979-1983) and as editor and publisher of the popculture magazine Spex. Since the 1990s he has written articles for newspapers and journals as well as essays about art and theatre. Since 1992 he has beeen lecturer at Merz Academy Stuttgart, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and in Passadena, Weimar, Bremen and Munich. Some of his current number one topics are theory of pop music, sound art, psychedelia and minimalism, video installation and neo-formalism.
